Time and Tide Wait for No One
Anna and Ella, in the 50's. I would give anything to have an afternoon with them. To ask questions, hear their stories. To help me figure out the mosaic that is my heritage, my reality.
I love old pictures like these and pondering just who these loved ones were and how they lived, and what they thought. Did you notice in the Texas picture that they are both smoking? Looks like they're sneaking a cigarette in fact!
I'm sure you're spot on with that. My grandmother (the taller of the two) was an amazing strong woman who defied convention (sometimes in ways that were not in her best interest). I know that my life was better as a result of having lived with her (and her last husband) until her death in 1954.
In my life I've waited tables, raised sons, taught school, published books, and railed at politicians. I'm building a house, next to my son, where I can spend time with my granddaughter. I read, write, and dream about being immortal.
